Across the world, there are musicians who carry deep rhythmic traditions and lineages shaped by land, culture, history and community.
Many of these artists hold knowledge that isn’t easily captured by notation or theory. It lives in the body. In time. In groove.

Yet too often:
Western-centred education models overlook these traditions
Indigenous and culture-rooted musicians lack fair, sustainable teaching pathways
Students seeking deeper rhythmic understanding don’t know where to learn it
World Groove Society exists to change that.
We are building a global, artist-led network where musicians can teach, learn, collaborate and create, with rhythm and groove at the heart of everything we do.
We help musicians develop a deeper sense of time, feel and embodied expression— while creating fairly paid teaching opportunities for tradition-rooted artists around the world.
Our work sits at the meeting point of:
Music Education
Cultural transmission
Artistic collaboration
Global cultural exchange
World Groove Society is currently:
Running one-to-one mentoring and lessons with active teachers
Connecting students with musicians grounded in diverse rhythmic traditions
Developing a growing network of artist-educators
Planning our first global collaborative recording project
Laying foundations for future retreats and in-person gatherings
Our first phase focuses on expanding our teacher community so more artists can share their knowledge, and more students can learn directly from tradition-bearers.
The RoadmapRespect for lineage & tradition
Artist autonomy and voice
Artist autonomy and voice
Long-term relationships over one-off output
Cultural context over commodification
Groove as a shared meeting point between worlds
World Groove Society was founded by Shane Bromfield — a bass player and guitarist with a background in jazz, reggae, and improvisational groove traditions.
After years of performing, studying and exploring rhythm-centred music across cultures, Shane saw two things clearly:
Many musicians wanted to develop a deeper, embodied relationship with groove
Many culture-rooted musicians carried extraordinary rhythmic knowledge —but lacked sustainable teaching pathways
This project is for:
Musicians who want to deepen their rhythmic feel and musical identity
Artists carrying tradition-rooted knowledge who wish to teach
Collaborators and partners working in intercultural arts
Organisations and funders who support artist-centred, ethical global practice
Our long-term vision includes:
Expanding our teacher network across cultures and regions
Strengthening ethical, artist-led global collaboration frameworks
Producing cross-cultural albums born from ongoing relationships
Developing immersive learning environments and retreats
Where we are heading...

Whether you are:
A musician seeking mentorship
An artist interested in teaching
A collaborator or partner organisation
or a funder who shares this vision
we’d love to be in conversation.
World Groove Society is growing carefully, relationally, and with respect for the people and traditions that shape it
