Groove based teaching

At World Groove Society, our teachers use a groove-based approach to learning, where musicians develop rhythm and expression through:

Verbalising what you play and speaking rhythms before playing them, so timing is felt in the body

Call-and-response listening, learning through dialogue, not just instruction

Context & lineage. Understanding where rhythms come from and how they live in community

We still value technique, notation and musical analysis, but we treat them as tools that become meaningful only after rhythm and feel are embodied.

What is World Groove Society?

World Groove Society is an online music education platform focused on groove, feel, and musical language. We connect students with high-level teachers rooted in Brazilian music and its relationship to jazz and global traditions. Lessons are practical, personal, and centered on real musical understanding rather than formulas or trends.

What is our philosophy?

Our philosophy is that groove comes first. We prioritize time feel, phrasing, and musical context over mechanical playing. Technique, theory, and repertoire are taught as tools in service of sound, feel, and musical identity. Lessons are grounded, human, and teacher-led.

Who is World Groove Society for?

World Groove Society is for musicians who want deeper connection to rhythm, groove, and musical language. It suits developing and experienced players who value feel, listening, and stylistic understanding. Students do not need to specialize in Brazilian music, but they should be curious about groove-based traditions.

What should I expect?

Students can expect focused one-on-one lessons tailored to their background and goals. Lessons may include groove studies, repertoire, rhythmic concepts, phrasing, and practical applications. Each teacher brings their own voice while staying aligned with the World Groove Society approach.

How do I pay for lessons?

Lessons are purchased through secure online payment links. Packages and single sessions are available depending on the teacher. Payment is required before lessons are scheduled.
