Hid Miguel

Brazilian Guitarist • Composer • Rhythm & Groove Educator

About the teacher

Hid Miguel is a Brazilian guitarist, composer, arranger, and educator whose relationship with music is deeply tied to identity, memory, and cultural transmission. He has been playing music since the age of 12 and studied in Brazil at Souza Lima University and the Groove School of Music Conservatory.

Throughout his career, Hid has worked across a wide range of styles, from samba and bossa nova to pop and electronic music, mainly as a composer, arranger, and session guitarist for other artists, including collaborations with well-known Brazilian singers. He has released one solo album, and his artistic core remains firmly rooted in Brazilian music.

For Hid, music is not entertainment alone, it is a way of existing, representing history, and connecting cultures.

Cultural Roots & Musical Style

Hid’s musical path began early, shaped by Bob Marley at home with his mother and Brazilian country music with his father. As a teenager, he immersed himself in 60s and 70s rock before Brazilian music became his central focus.

He went on to study and absorb artists such as João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Dorival Caymmi, Djavan, Elis Regina, Cartola, Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, and Chico Buarque, using jazz as a reference point to deepen his understanding of Brazilian music.

Through years of travel, Hid’s musical language expanded through close contact with bachata, salsa, bolero, cumbia, and other Latin traditions.

At the core of his work remain the rhythms of Brazil — samba, bossa nova, baião, and forró — carried as both heritage and responsibility.

Teaching Philosophy & Approach

Hid’s approach to teaching is clear and deeply musical:

You must sing everything you play

If you say you know something, you should know it in all keys

If your practice doesn’t sound like music, something is wrong

Music is a language — learn it with people who speak it

Silence and pauses are as important as notes
